The Jardines del Rey Big Game Trolling Tournament will take place in Cayo Guillermo, Cuba, from October 25th to 30th, 2023. The fishing area will be up to 5 miles to the North - Northeast between Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, which is a rich fishing area in the Old Channel of the Bahamas, an area characterized by the abundance of pelagic or billfish at this time of the year - among them are: Peralgic and billfishes such as the Fantail, Casteros, White Marlin, Wahoo, and Dorados.

The date chosen (October 25 - 30) is the result of a previous analysis of the behavior of the tides and the moon.

The Marina Marlin Jardines del Rey, has specialized crews with more than 20 years of experience in the area, aboard of fishing boats that can be chartered through us between 33 and 42 feet equipped with up to four simultaneous rods, and lines of up to 60 pounds, suitable to catch species included in the event.

About Cayo Guillermo

Cayo Guillermo stands out for its beautiful beaches of crystal-clear waters and fine sand and for being one of the places visited by the American writer Ernest Hemingway during his trip along the Cuban coast. It is a small islet of only 13 square kilometers in extension, which together with Cayo Coco, make up the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, on the northern coast of Ciego de Avila. 

Important Competitor Information

The event, which will be governed by the rules of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA), will make it possible to evaluate the enormous potential of the Cayo Guillermo area for the development of sport fishing. Sponsored by La Marina Marlin of Cayo Guillermo, the event will host the competitors from October 25 to 30. As in previous editions, the competition will be governed by the rules of the International Sportfishing Association through the mark-and-release system in order to protect the marine environment.

The event will consider the capture of species such as: blue Marlin, Sailfish, wahoo and dolphin fish. The permitted fishing line will be 60 pounds and the notification of a tag and release or a capture will be informed to the marina control centre stating the time, the number of the team and the area where it occurred. Each crew will carry a camera that will be delivered to the jury at the end of the day, with 3 photos: when they capture the fish, when they tag it and then when they released.
